A good place to stay on a trek but not a good place for atmosphere. The food is standard and the wine pretty good value. It is usually possible to walk to refuge from valley with no special precautions, but due to late snow this year, there is still parts of the trail that require caution.The Albert 1er is a nice modern refuge offering a high standard good accommodation.
Clean bathrooms. 2702m (2h30) Reaching the glacier shortly afterwards, we will take the direction to the Superior Col du Tour 3289m (2h30). Room absolutely roasting all night with only a small window you couldn't reach from the floor-not ideal really and the other larger window was not openable.Totally geared up for alpine activities. All the staff were friendly.Take the cable car from Le Tour and walk the route to the hut. The contemporary communal area didn't work for me as it was a bit out of place. Once there this is a large hut that in the summertime can accomodate 137 people! The Albert 1er is a nice modern refuge offering a high standard good accommodation. Credit cards accepted and free running water available. You follow the moraine ridge, and you will have the refuge in sight the whole path.
We found the dorm much too hot to sleep in July with not enough ventilation. Breakfast and evening meal was very good.
Why do some guests have to leave poo all over the seat and toilet pan etc? Ski lift to Col de Balme and taking the hiking path to the Albert 1er refuge. Tasty and plenty of it. It’s popular but well worth a visit.Modern hut with a lot of dorm rooms. Lots of flushable toilet cubicles with seats available plus 2 separate urinals. It’s a climbers’ hutbut hikers also go there. Separate cubicles with locked door available for strip washing if you don't mind cold water-note the sinks are high up though for some reason making getting your feet up there and in the sink a bit of an effort-the main 'trough' sink outside of the cubicles is lower down though so if you are shorter than 5ft 6ins then this would work for feet! That said the sleeping bunks were efficient in rooms of 20 and the dining hall was warm and spacious. Plenty of room to leave boots and equipment in downstairs drying / store room, where slippers / cloggs / crocs are provided to wear in the refuge. Programme: Day 1 RDV 08h00am, parking at Le Tour.
As there are many large groups theGreat dorm rooms with clean bunk beds. Stunning views , clean modern & comfortable refuge. Meals is also good. Last part isEasy enough to walk to from the chairlift near Vallorcine. Amazing view! The path will be a bit demanding, but you will get reward. Dormetries hold a relatively small number of people so not too many disturbances.
