Good to see the bar & restaurant full of locals. It is basically a couple of brochures, nothing personalized or technical (l'office de tourisme was the same). Guestrooms are traditionally designed with TV and free Wi-Fi. Calme et détente dans un cadre de verdure. Very traditional French hotel with traditional rooms.
We booked this hotel thinking it would be something differnt. Breakfast was good with lovely little jars of homemade jams & preserves & a friendly, helpful waitress.
Breakfast was too simple for the price, basically bread, butter and tiny jams, the best is the croissant (1) you get. We’re sure you’ll enjoy your stay at Hotel Le Portalou as you experience everything La Canourgue has to offer.

The restaurant has a nice menu and carte and food is really good, though I didn't have the Aligot. Découvrez les plats régionaux comme l'aligot, les tripoux. They seemed puzzled by my little French and commented about it, but no one tried other languages (again, this happens everywhere in France). Its very quaint with a few little shops and restaurants and lovely narrow, winding streets. The Hôtel Le Portalou is located in the quiet village of La Canourgue on the edge of the Cévennes National Park.

A friendly welcome, although the hotel only opened its doors at 17.00, a large & characterful room with good bathroom, and a delicious, excellent value dinner.

The room was shabby but nicely sized and plain correct, the only problem is it was a "3rd" floor (roof) which was actually a 5th with NO lift and big old steps. The region is really beautiful and would visit it again but would choose a place with a lift or less stairs! We explored the town.
